WIP – Mario Kart: Source


Mario Kart: Source (MKS) is a modification of the Source Engine used in HL2. I’m really enjoying creating and animating characters and then seeing them in game. We’ve made a lot of progress in the last couple of months and it’s pretty exciting to see MKS move forward. We’re finishing up a few things before we release another video. Here’s a link to our last release: MKS on Youtube. Watching that really feels like ancient history. We’ve come so much further since then.

I’ve switched to a different style of modeling. Mostly lofting curves then converting to polys. I got the idea from a book I’m reading: Stop Staring, a graduation gift. I’m very happy with how it’s looking. As you can see, the light grey mesh is the original and it is very dense, too dense to create blend shapes in a timely fashion. The darker grey is the new mesh, which is much “lighter” on the polys.

I’m rebuilding my alien character in Maya. He was poorly built (one of my first characters) and I want a more efficient version in Maya.
