Inflatable armor animation

I just stumbled across an article referring to an animation I finished in March 09. It explains how inflatable armor responds to an IED explosion. I did not post about it since I’m under a NDA. However, since the animation is now out in the public, I felt I should express my delight in seeing it “in the wild.” The project was one I learned a lot from.

I used a combination of Maya, Photoshop, After Effects, and Avid to create the animation.

Had to post about the awesome stuff I found today. We went over to a friend of a friend’s house to look at a dining room set they were giving away. There was also a bunch of random stuff everywhere that they were trying to get rid of too. Jarrett and I browsed through but didn’t want anything. However, Lila, Jarrett and her friend were talking and I noticed a Sega Genesis box in the corner. It had 2 NES controllers inside! Such a find caught our interest and we left with a trashbag full of stuff.

Yesterday night we went out to a little concert at a local coffee shop. Our friend Tim was playing so we went to show our support. We’re soo hip and indie!

Heading back to Atl after a late meeting in Athens. I wanted to post some photos about a house we went and looked at. The inside would have to be completely redone so we decided to move on even though it was very very cheap.

Cats and Dogs

I’m listening to the thunder as I write this. It’s raining extremely hard outside and has done so for the last hour. Some bright lightning made me decide to shut off Gears of War rather than risk a fried tv and 360. Dinner’s almost ready and I thought I’d write a quick something. I’m pretty exhausted from the grind today and it’s nice to shut everything off and just listen to the rain. Jarrett and I have decided to put an offer down on a house not too far from us. We’re very very excited about it. I’ll be sure to post all about it as I want to seriously document our first house together (maybe even video!). Something else I’ve wanted to create is a video of “A Day at Work with Jared.” The idea is to create a DVD that I could show to my kids in 20 years. Another project that has me stoked is creating a sword umbrella (sword hilt + umbrella = sword umbrella) check out my DIY page for specifics. Dinner’s ready and the lightning has died down. Guess that means I’m through writing for now.

Fire

I was awakened this morning to a very loud bang. I then thought to myself, was that a gunshot? I looked out the window and 40 ft away was a blazing vehicle. I immediately started fumbling and telling Jarrett “Fire…fire!” The fire dept had already been called and arrived about 3 minutes later. I was only able to take a few pictures before it was all over.

Update: Took some shots this morning. The fire was so hot it melted the cars around it. In one of the shots you can see the glass melted over the door.

I scooted back in my chair here at work and the sight of my desk made me smile. I really like what I do. Any job I can take an xbox controller to must be a good one. I just thought I’d share that.

New Project

I discovered something today that gave me a new idea about my next video-game-themed project. I too want a Big Daddy figurine and I like to make things myself, so this fits in perfectly. Then later in my reader I saw a figurine for Mega Man…. IDEA!!! Why not make a MEGA MAN FIGURINE?! The Blank Mighty Mugg is only $10! A Mega Man Mighty Mugg (nice alliteration) has been done, but I’ll be going after much more than just painting on it. Once my Mega Man is complete and I feel I’m up to the task, I’ll make a Big Daddy too.

On a side note, this has reminded me that I need to work on my DIY section where I’ll post links/instructions on how to build your own versions of what I’ve created.

Lila, Jarrett and I wait patiently for the latest Harry Potter to start. We ate mall food while we stood in the seating line outside the theatre. Not nearly as feverish as I imagine the midnight showing was.
Jarrett and I watched all the previous Harry Potter movies this past week and Jarrett nearly read through every single book in the series (I’m not that crazy). She got within 400 pages of that goal, so close!
